I hate to say this but I am not a reader. I have never enjoyed reading. My mother used to take me to the library but it was never a hobby I enjoyed. I was an active child. I enjoyed playing outside.
Reading did not come that easily to me. Now I am a Reading Teacher! Go firgure. I encourage my students to read and i let them read things they enjoy during silent reading time b/c if i dont let them pick, they wont read at all! I help my students pick books that are on their level and books that they are interested in. I try to make reading fun and interesting for my students.
I dont mind reading off of the computer and i think that technology has increased the time I spend reading. i will read the news online. I email people often instead of talking to them on the phone. I believe all the typing and emailing I do enhances my writing skills. In the New Literacies book they made reference that the computer has become the telephone and the telephone has become the computer. I used to call people to say hello and what's up now I send an email or a text message.

perhaps you should take your own advice and find things you enjoy reading.... I LOVE reading magazines and must have at least 8-10 different subscriptions (what used to be fashion mags are now parenting - how life changes) Just find something you enjoy and read.... even if it's only on the computer that STILL counts :)
I think reading is reading no matter what or where you do it. At this point I'm planning more library trips for my son and myself. If he can see his mother reading then this will give him a model to follow. He will become a better reader and in the process learn many things.
I love your honesty. It is often difficult to admit our shortcomings because of what people think an educator should be like. Try setting reading goals. My goal is to read more educational literature.
